Installation Overview
While most homeowners prefer to have their garage door installed by professionals (and we recommend that all standard torsion spring installations and service be done only by trained professionals), IDEAL Door provides the information you need to install it yourself. Our EZ-SETŪ Torsion Spring System makes it possible for a DIY'er to install a torsion spring door.

EZ-SET spring system
This patented spring makes installation easier, faster and safer because you do not have to lift the weight of the door during installation. Winding the spring takes only a few seconds using your 3/8" drill.
Easy-to-Follow Printed Instructions
We provide you with complete, illustrated installation instructions that detail every part of the job so you can be confident your new IDEAL Door will install easily and operate perfectly.

How To Measure For Your New Garage Door
Please use the drawing and instructions below to measure your garage door. Take these measurements to your local IDEAL Door distributor to purchase a garage door.

Step #1
Measure door opening width and height in feet and inches. This determines the size of door needed. The rough opening should be the same size as the door.

Step #2
Measure for sideroom: 3-3/4" is required on each side for installation of the vertical track for standard extension spring, standard torsion spring and EZ-SET Torsion Spring System.

Step #3
Measure area labeled “headroom” – distance between the top of the door opening (“jamb header”) and the ceiling (or floor joist). 10" is required for the standard extension spring. 12" is required for standard torsion spring and EZ-SET Torsion Spring System. If you have restricted headroom, special hardware is available. Additional headroom is required for installation of an automatic garage door opener.
NOTE: If door height extends above the opening, the headroom measurement should be adjusted proportionately.

Step #4
Measure area labeled “backroom” – distance is measured from the garage door opening toward the back wall of the garage. Door height plus 18" is required. Additional backroom may be required for installation of an automatic garage door opener.

Installation is Easy

1. Remove existing door. 2. Attach hardware to door sections. 3. Place sections in opening.
4. Install track; insert rollers in track. 5. Attach springs and connect cables. 6. See complete illustrated installation instructions, included with your new IDEAL Door.
